When you are lost in the jungles of Amazon, you know you are so f****d. There is no way you're getting out without any help unless you are Bear Grylls.
You have lost all the sense of direction. All the places you go will look just like the places you left. You end up going in circles. Smart people will try to climb a tree to survey the area and devise a plan of action but when they are climbing down, they often tend to loose a limb or two or three or maybe four. Smarter still people ( the fat ones actually who cant climb trees ) will use their smartphones to do the work instead. It's become very essential that you carry a compass with you at all times. But who heeds the advice ? Carrying a cellphone has become more important than carrying a compass. Facebook is more important you guys! It hasnt been long since manufacturers integrated compass into your cellphones to avoid you the trouble of packing the little bronze gift you got while you were 8.
People say that in places such as Amazon, your life depends on your choices. But to make choices, will you trust your mind or your heart ?
The answer is neither, coz if you do trust your mind or heart, you are going to end up in the anacondas belly!
To avoid such gruesome ends to our pathetic lives,Vladimir Ten has developed a neat little app. It's called 3D Compass and GPS. Wow!....that sounds awesome. 3D!!!
I mean do you really need 3D compass to get yourself out ? 3D ? With insects laying eggs in your skin ? NO, but its a lot fun getting out of the forest this way.
The application is more of a fashion than a function, but my god it looks pretty!

Bringing the agumented reality concept to a new level, the compass is shown just like a HUD over a live camera. The bearings rotate as you move and keeps reorientating itself to show you the magnetic North. Makes you feel like wanting to reach out and touch those pretty yellow numbers. Tilt your phone down and you can see a Disc which is itself a compass pointer. The useful thing here is that you can see right through the compass while you make your way. Who knows when you may spot that deadly adder sitting right in your path. The application also offers other goodies such as different pointers. Included in the set is a barrel (looks like a rubber dud commonly seen in compass keychains ), an Arrow (most boringest shape of them all) and a WindRose ( looks like a salted starfish which nobody ate ). Its fun to watch them float around as you move your cellphone. You can give those pointers a nudge with your fingers and they will eventually point back.
But what good is a compass when you dont know which way to go. So a GPS system is included in the app which has very clever 'Point of Interest' function. What it does is it collects your immediate GPS co-ordinates and sets it up as a marker points. You can see these markers through the compass. Similar to the LAYAR, you can also add some of your own unique GPS points. Practically, it's a lot helpful. Consider you are going out to see that local falls deep inside the forest. Before you set off, mark your hotel as a POI. It sounds stupid but when you do get lost in the forest, you can use the App which will track and point out which way your hotel is in through coloured markers and it also tells you how far you are from your destination. So you can continue that way instead of climbing trees and doing mokey stuffs. Suppose you forgot to add a POI Safezone, you can mark all the places you have been as POIs, that way you can know that you are not backtracking.
For those who think such applications are limited for use in Forest and Desert Situations, think again. If you go on as a tourist to unfamiliar countries, you can use the App and mark your hotel as POI Safezone. This way you can always find your way back in case you get lost or you can find out if that Rickshaw dude is trying to cheat you by going the wrong way for a larger fare. Another example : Mark your location as a POI Safezone, Use Google Earth to get the GPS coordinates of the destinations you want to go. Feed them all to the App to make a new POI Destinations. When you are travelling, you can see all the POIs you have marked along with their distance. This way you can visit destinations which are closer to each other first and then go to destinations which are further away.
